Northborough to Needham
Brief multiplex with MA 16 in Wellesley.
In 1930, 135 began in Westboro and extended to Needham. By 1933, the west end was moved to Northboro (as it is now). To the east, it had been extended to Quincy via Dedham Ave, High St, Milton St, Canton Ave Center St (Milton), Brook Rd, Adams St, and Furnace Brook Parkway to end at the Southern Artery.
By 1939, the eastern end had changed slightly. Instead of using Furnace Brook, it stayed with Adams to Hancock, which it followed briefly to Washington St. It appears to end at the intersection of Washington and Southern Artery.
Between 1954 and 1956, 135 was routed onto the newly completed MA 128 bypass of Dedham. At the southeastern end, it took MA 138 north to Canton Ave and resumed its old route. By 1966, and probably between 1959 and 1961, 135 was truncated to end at its junction with 128 in Dedham.
I’d like to see 135 restored somewhat – extend it back down Common and High Streets in Dedham to the VFW Parkway, then down to 128 at exit 15. At the same time, truncate MA 109 to end at the new 135. (I’ve never liked numbered routes that end at a non-numbered road).
