By 1967, what would eventually become I-495 between MA 24 and US 6 was half completed as a highway. The highway section was numbered MA 25, the surface street maintained the MA 28 designation. By 1969, the highway was complete and MA 25 connected 24 to US 6. By 1969, I-495 was proposed to fill the gap between I-95 and MA 25. IN addition, MA 25 had proposals to extend eastward to the Bourne Bridge from its terminus at Glen Charlie Road. The proposed sections were still not completed by 1982.
